Overview
The HSE Business Unit Director is responsible for leading the strategic development and implementation of HSE management systems and programs for their respective business unit to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Working closely with business unit operations and executive management to align HSE functions within the organization. Effectively communicating with regional HSE personnel and communicate details of safety conditions with all levels of supervision and management.
Responsibilities
• Formulates and implements policies, procedures, programs and job-specific safety plans for construction operations that comply with regulatory and / or client program requirements.• Provide alignment across Segment Operations and HSE to support segment objectives.• Maintain continuous communication with the executive leadership regarding risks and opportunities.• Strategic thinker and broad organizational and safety understanding to facilitate business unit specific initiatives and programs.• Effectively communicate and work together with regional HSE teams to maintain safety visibility and measuring business unit specific goals as well as overall ENFRA targets and compliance.• Maintains broad knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and familiarity with relevant environmental laws.• Receives complaints and reports on business unit Segment safety concerns and conducts proper and documented investigations individually or in collaboration with other HSE team members and support personnel.• Main point of contact for workplace injuries, accident investigations and near-misses.• Visits construction sites regularly to coordinate and/or conduct jobsite inspections and ensure implementation of the correct safety policies and procedures.• Reviews construction plans for evacuation plans, designs for disposal systems, lighting and ventilation, and ensures there is no danger to the health or safety of workers or site visitors.• Overall business unit Segment safety training creation or coordination.• Oversees business unit toolbox talk program.• Coordinates or delivers basic first aid skills, CPR, and prevention of workplace accidents.• Represents the business unit in any relative meetings.• Keeps abreast of updates for safety or legal regulations on workplace safety and environmental issues.• Maintains knowledge in safety criteria of OSHA CFR-291926 Construction, 1910General Industry, and ANSI standards.• Ensures documentation is completed for each accident and incident.• Documents training delivered.• Main point of contact for Segment specific OSHA Forms.• Supports the company drug testing policy and procedures.• Maintain DOT compliance and knowledge in Sustainability Segment• Help drive and support safety standards and initiatives for Segment fleet and driving practices.• Inspecting of machinery, equipment and working conditions or other setting to ensure compliance with occupations safety and health regulations.• Inspection machines and equipment for accident prevention devices.• Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing.• Inspection of specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies.• Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter.• Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action and presents to Segment unit Operations.• Investigation of accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program.• Demonstrates use of safety equipment.• Ability to present and think Big Picture in review daily tasks for safety then train and implement control measures.
