Boeing Aerospace OperationsThe BGS tooling group is looking for a Senior-Level Tool Engineer to join the Production Engineering Group. This position is primarily based in Jacksonville, FL, but we are open to considering candidates for placement in San Antonio, TX.
The candidate should be an expert in all aspects of tooling to include design, fabrication, installation and maintenance. Depending upon where this role is filled, the position will require interim support between the two sites and travel will be required. The position will give technical leadership for BGS tooling especially in the area of MRO tooling and bring together multiple tooling groups across the enterprise to support MRO onsite programs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leads in the development and implementation of production and tooling methodologies.
- Oversees team members develop, identify and implement conceptual designs and maintenance of the program architecture for build.
- Integrate tool use into manufacturing plans.
- Resolves technical problems and assists in the implementation of new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts.
- Implements Lean principles and technologies.
- Interfaces with professional associations, suppliers, IPTs and internal customers to develop products, skills, knowledge and experience.
- Evaluates program and project requirements, develops complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System.
- Advises programs on the application of highly complex equipment and tooling solutions that enable programs to meet Production System requirements.
- Oversees the creation and modification of equipment and tooling definition at the business unit level.
- Leads the execution of project plans and influences Make/Buy decisions.
- Develops requirements for safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability and ergonomic factors.
- Consults with management regarding gated reviews and assesses production readiness.
- Evaluates robotics, automation or technology insertion opportunities and provides solutions for emergent technical issues of significance across the global production system.
- Encourage collaboration among team members to design and implement tooling for our Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned and may be requested to support other programs as needed.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics.
- 14+ years’ experience in manufacturing, tooling design, or production support engineering.
- 10+ years’ tooling experience.
- Ability to effectively develop and unite a team across multiple locations.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement and root cause analysis
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application to tooling solutions
- Ability to work in a hands-on production environment, interfacing with mechanics and other engineering disciplines.
- Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to foster teamwork and drive successful project outcomes.
- Candidate will be required top obtain a US Secret Security clearance post start which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience in a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) for tooling design and modifications.
- Knowledge of aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100, FAA regulations, military specifications).
- Experience with project management or supplier coordination related to tooling fabrication and procurement.
- Experience with special tooling, jigs, fixtures, or ground support equipment in an aerospace or industrial setting.
