About the role

Job Description

The Business Operations Specialist provides specialized fiscal, administrative, and operational support across the district. This position is responsible for backfilling vacant Administrative and Fiscal Assistant (AFA) positions in unit offices, assisting with onboarding and training new employees, and supporting district-wide systems and processes including Extended Education, 4-H Online, and other administrative platforms.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in fiscal operations, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, or related administrative work.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and database platforms.
Strong organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to travel within the district (state vehicle or travel reimbursement provided).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a Virginia Cooperative Extension office or similar administrative setting.
Familiarity with Virginia Tech financial and administrative systems such as Chrome River, HokieMart, Banner, or Summit.
Experience with platforms such as 4-H Online or registration/education systems.
Knowledge of state or university fiscal policies and purchasing regulations.
Experience training others or providing technical assistance.
Associate’s degree or higher in business, accounting, public administration, or related field.

Additional Information
