Governments across the Nordics mandating net zero targets and sustainability disclosures in public tenders, Medtronic is committed to leading the way in sustainable healthcare transformation.Medtronic is seeking a Strategic Sustainability Lead, Nordics, to drive the transformation of healthcare by embedding sustainability into every aspect of our business and customer partnerships. In this role, you will work closely with strategic customers, hospitals, and healthcare providers to advance sustainable healthcare delivery. Collaborating with Operating Units and Global Functions, you will lead Medtronic’s journey toward net zero, ensuring our solutions meet and exceed Nordic sustainability standards while helping shape a greener future for patients and communities across the region. This position may be remote or hybrid, with the expectation of regular travel across the Nordics.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Act as Medtronic’s main sustainability partner for strategic Nordic customers, co-developing innovative and impactful solutions
Proactively identify and pursue business opportunities in the pre-tender phase to maximize value for both customers and Medtronic
Represent Medtronic at relevant industry groups, influencing sustainability strategies across the region
Respond to customer and internal inquiries on sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics, providing clear, data-driven insights
Build Nordic business cases with actual economic impact (Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), cost-of-waste reduction, energy and logistics savings)
Translate sustainability improvements into commercial advantage and pricing logic
Demonstrate understanding of value-based procurement and green public procurement frameworks in the Nordics; apply knowledge of how sustainability scoring is used at regional level and how Nordic buyers rank sustainability vs. clinical efficacy vs. price
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Experience in project management and building strategic partnerships, ideally within MedTech, healthcare, or sustainability
Collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills with customers and stakeholders
Analytical mindset, proactive approach, and strong commercial communication skills in English and at least one Scandinavian language (Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian)
Deep understanding of Nordic healthcare systems, including hospital operations, procurement, logistics, or clinical workflows; insights into Nordic healthcare-specific sustainability challenges and strategies
Experience influencing sustainability criteria in public tenders under Nordic procurement law; strong knowledge of EU sustainability regulations (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and global reporting standards (Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP))
Skilled in Power BI or similar data analysis and reporting tools; experience with industry alliances, advocacy, or public affairs
Familiarity with Environment, Health and Safety standards — EHS (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001) and regulations (Restriction of Hazardous Substances — RoHS, Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR), etc.)
