About the role

Summary

The Multi-Skilled CNA/ HUC assist with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, toileting, turning and assistance with feeding). They provide basic patient care and assist in maintenance of a safe and clean environment by specifically answering of the call bell at the station and in room. These duties will be done under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge of patients. The multi-skilled CNA/HUC will also perform clerical/HUC duties such as answering phones, entering orders and general administrative support duties when not assisting with activities of daily living for the patient.

  • Under the guidance and supervision of an RN maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job‑related hazards.
  • Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Maintains clinical competency as required per policy
  • Under the guidance and supervision of an RN meets criteria that benefits workflow of the unit.
  • Under the guidance and supervision of an RN demonstrates knowledge of care and differentiates abnormal conditions. Assists with entering of orders and data input.
  • Assists patient with activities of daily living and provides basic patient care. Assists with unit organization
  • Under the guidance and supervision of an RN communicates patient related information to appropriate personnel

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma/ GED

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Completion of Nursing Assistant Course (Preferred)
  • Current BLS for health care providers Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification Required
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification Required.
  • New hires must obtain certification within 3 months of Date of Hire.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Prior basic experience performing clerical or customer service duties, with prior HUC training/experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Windows-based applications (primarily MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook).  Ability to use computer driven patient care equipment.
  • Bilingual (fluent in English/Spanish) preferred
  • Maintains and demonstrates appropriate skills and competencies associated with Certified Nursing Assistant and HUC duties.
  • Physical ability to assist with patient transfers to and from unit.
