BASIC FUNCTION:
The Senior Director, Auxiliary Operations reports to the Assistant Vice President, Auxiliary Enterprises and is a leadership team member. The Senior Director will provide innovative leadership and facility oversight for a diverse group of revenue-generating auxiliary enterprises directly supporting student life, the Howard community, and the University's academic mission. Auxiliary Enterprises include conference & event services, outsourced dining services, university campus stores and bookstores, vending, parking, and transportation services, student access services, mail services, and other revenue-generating enterprises. The Senior Director will prioritize excellence in customer service, program growth and development, and optimizing revenue.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
Responsible for making recommendations in compensation, staff selection, disciplinary actions, complaints, performance appraisal, and similar supervisory duties. Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of subordinates for effective operation and unit results.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include executives, administrators, facilities, students, and staff of the department and the university at large. External communications include consultants, vendors, representatives from other colleges and universities, visitors, and the public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- The Senior Director is responsible for developing and achieving departmental goals and objectives, interpreting institutional directives, evaluating performance, and assuring that departmental operations comply with the strategic goals and vision of the institution.
- Assists with developing Auxiliary Enterprises' annual strategic plans and initiatives to meet the needs of university constituents through the University's mission, vision, and strategic plan.
- Defines key performance indicators to monitor and track each auxiliary function performance and the aggregate performance of the Auxiliary Enterprises group (e.g., customer service, efficiency, financial performance, pricing).
- Oversees the facility operations, construction, and maintenance for the auxiliary functions and periodic reporting packages that communicate operating results, challenges, and opportunities to a diverse constituency of university stakeholders and leaders.
- Work involves establishing the strategic plan, goals, and objectives; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and reviewing, approving, and approving budgets.
- Develops and implements entrepreneurial ideas that contribute to the diversification and strengthening of revenue streams. Maintains pace with industry standards and best practices.
- Assist with developing marketing and communications strategies that improve brand awareness and effectively inform external and internal customers of the value, benefits, and other pertinent information related to Auxiliary Enterprise functions.
