PSE's Planning team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Senior Engineer - Electric Reliability Planning position!

Job Description

Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) Electric Distribution Reliability Planning team is seeking a Senior Engineer for distribution planning! Our team identifies solutions that improve system reliability for customers across 1,100+ distribution circuits from nearly 300 substations throughout PSE's service territory. We also identify wildfire risk mitigation projects to enhance system resiliency and protect our communities. You'll support new initiatives and grid modernization technologies while making a significant impact on distribution system safety and performance.

 

This engineering role is ideal for experienced utility engineers and electric distribution planning professional to provide technical leadership. You'll provide engineering support and guidance to junior staff, understand corporate strategy, and present to diverse audiences. The position involves knowledge sharing, workforce development, and ensuring compliance with PSE design standards and safety requirements.

 

This job is considered "safety sensitive" as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors electric distribution system reliability performance at the circuit level
  • Performs reliability studies and system analysis using tools including Synergi for simulation, modeling, and analysis.
  • Develops distribution system improvement projects and utility infrastructure solutions
  • Scopes microgrid solutions for enhanced reliability and resiliency applications.
  • Identifies and scopes Distribution Automation Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (DA-FLISR) projects.
  • Evaluates and scopes wildfire mitigation projects to enhance system resilience.
  • Collaborates with PSE's Grid Modernization team to implement new technologies
  • Collaborates with Electric System Design engineers to ensure efficient and clear communication of project scope.
  • Coordinates with other Planning teams to ensure holistic issue resolution.
  • Leads, mentors, and coordinates work of junior engineers, engineering assistants, contractors, and other technical staff.
  • Provides technical support in planning, construction, and analysis of PSE facilities and assets.
  • Reviews design and documentation to ensure projects achieve justified benefits and comply with codes, standards and design requirements.
  • Interprets and applies company and industry standards, guidelines, and methods.
  • Supports emergency response work including immediate and extended restoration efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
  • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working within the utility industry.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering License.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects

The pay range for this position is $108,200.00 - $180,200.00, and this position is eligible
