A.POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Program Director of Immersions (SPDI) oversees the Ignatian Center’s immersion programs and manages the Immersions Team in collaboration with the Associate Director of Community Engaged Student Learning (AD-CESL). The Ignatian Center Immersions are grounded in the Center’s Jesuit, Catholic educational tradition, emphasizing opportunities for student academic, emotional, social and spiritual growth and vocational discernment. For all immersions, the Program Director manages the logistical preparation of immersion trips and student leadership opportunities. The SPDI manages the assignment of individual immersion programs to the SPDI, Immersions Program Directors, and in some cases other Division and SCU staff. For those immersions for which the SPDI is the primary leader, the SPDI directs all key components (preparation, content, logistics, risk management, student leadership, travel, and follow up). For those immersions for which the SPDI is not the primary leader, the SPDI ensures all key components are successfully and effectively executed. The position will include periodic accompaniment on immersion programs and support of fellowship programs. This is a full-time position reporting to the Associate Director of CESL of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education as part of the Division of Mission and Ministry.
B.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Provide strategic leadership of the Immersions Team
Manage the Immersions Team, two Program Directors and Graduate Assistants(s)
Manage the immersion leadership assignment process, determining the primary staff leader for each immersion based on needs, experience, workload, etc.
Manage the immersions budget, including expenses, student fees, and scholarships
In collaboration with the Director and Associate Director of CESL deepen and nurture key immersion partnerships
Manages the program’s travel approval process according to university policy
Ensure execution of marketing efforts for student recruitment
Administer assessment tools in support of program learning goals and objectives
2. Oversee assigned immersion programs
The SPD strategically assigns immersion programs to the Program Directors for management and oversight. Immersions staff share responsibility on any given immersion cycle in key areas: accompaniment, logistics, formation, and immersion coordinator supervision.
Manage full oversight of 2-3 immersions per year serving as the sole staff member and decision-maker leading the group (including directing all aspects of formation and follow up for these specific immersions)
Exercise sound judgment and strategic planning for program preparation and execution
Oversee all logistical components for 2-3 immersions per cycle (oversee all logistical planning, including pre-trip decision-making, communication with host organization, students, student leader, and staff companion)
Direct formation process for full student participant cohort for given immersion cycle (Manage all logistical planning for immersion preparation meetings, events, and retreats)
Provide accompaniment, mentorship, support, and care for immersion participants, including vocational and spiritual conversations.
Supervise Student Assistants in key areas of formation and logistics. Serve as primary supervisor of undergraduate student leaders for all assigned programs
3.Oversee all aspects of local plunges
Ensure full oversight of local daylong and overnight plunges
Ensure successful execution of preparation meetings and quality communication with pertinent community partners pre- and post-plunge
Oversee all logistical components, including pre-trip decision making, communication with host organization, students, student leader, and staff leader
Ensure management of travel and lodging
Ensure mentorship of urban plunge student coordinators
Ensure recruitment of participants and target student groups
