This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the centre of an exciting development programme. We are developing our own firmware to run on the next generation Broadband CPE, including Broadband Hubs, Wi-Fi extenders and 4G/5G modems. We will innovate and deliver at speed using agile methodology.

You will be responsible for leading technical engineering activities for BT’s Broadband CPE for the current and next generation of hardware and software platforms.  You will work closely with business stakeholders, technical delivery managers, software development teams, engineering and test teams, operational teams and external vendors to deliver a great customer experience.

The products we develop are at the centre of our customers’ Broadband experience in their homes and businesses. You will be our most discerning of customers, as your skills and values will help shape our products for millions of customers across the UK.
 

What you’ll be doing

•    Collaborating with the software development teams to deliver features and customer experience based on priority and value.
•    Managing continuous releases of firmware to deliver an uplift in features and customer experience using an agile methodology.
•    Taking our Broadband products from development into our homes through being at the forefront of our trials process. Have fun trying out the latest Broadband products and features.
•    Defining the scope of test coverage required and working with the test development and test execution teams to define and update automated test cases.
•    Co-ordinating the triage and investigation of issues and bugs raised during testing, during trials and by live customers.
•    Managing the creation of test environments to confirm the issues and prove any fixes provided by the development teams.
•    Providing engineering oversight throughout the product lifecycle.
•    Constantly learning and developing – both in terms of technical skills and technology but also in ways of working and striving to work more efficiently

 

Skills and Experience

•    Experience in technical design, development, engineering of internet devices, (ideally WI-Fi or Broadband).
•    Knowledge and experience of working with in-home customer premise equipment, home/office networking and/or related technologies, e.g. Broadband DSL/Fibre, 4G/5G Mobile networks, IP, WiFi, Voice, DECT, IoT, Home Networking
•    Preferably knowledge of network and device diagnostics and using data science tools and techniques
•    Preferably experience in software architecture/design/development on embedded Linux systems
•    Preferably some experience of test automation and continuous integration and testing strategies.
•    Preferably working knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban
•    Experience using Agile Tools, such as Jira, R4J and Confluence
