About the Position:
The Center for Internships and Community Engagement (CICE) creates cooperative linkages between higher education, community organizations and professional offices and strives to create high quality, community-based experiences that benefit students, partner sites, and communities. We are committed to providing our students with experiences in and out of the classroom that develop the habit of intellectual inquiry, prepare for challenging professions, strengthen relationships to their communities and contribute productively to society. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Academic Internship Specialist (Student Services Professional III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under general direction, the Academic Internship Specialist will provide independent student advisement and guidance with a high degree of judgement, imagination, and professional skills regarding academic internships and high-impact experiential learning. In this capacity, the Specialist will plan, develop and implement new and existing programs, services and support systems that deliver critical guidance to students and maximize policy compliance. The role also involves collaboration with various faculty, staff and administrators to communicate policy and processes, develop effective student support platforms, optimize efficiency and resolve complications.
Using professional judgment and information analysis, the Specialist may also assist with reviewing proposed academic internship opportunities submitted to the campus' job and internship portal and independently determine the best approaches for approving student opportunities in compliance with campus and federal labor policies and risk management protocol. The Specialist will analyze guidelines and established precedents to determine solutions to problems that may arise for both students and sites throughout the academic internship experience. The Specialist will also support marketing and promotion of academic internship opportunities, events and services to the campus and external communities. Other duties as assigned.
