As a Principal Scientist in Clinical Nutrition & Claims at Hill's, you'll be a key driver in elevating our commitment to exceptional pet nutrition and product quality. Your core responsibility involves offering indispensable nutrition expertise to support Hill's initiatives, with a special emphasis on clinical nutrition, claims, and clinical studies. Your pivotal role aligns with our central business strategy, which revolves around achieving excellence in clinical nutrition to benefit pets and earn the trust of veterinarians. This position demands extensive qualifications in veterinary medicine, veterinary nutrition, and clinical research, and you will significantly influence the future of pet nutrition. Ideal for seasoned researchers with a strong publication record and a deep understanding of companion animal nutrition and leading a team with diverse backgrounds and consensus building experiences.

 

Responsilbities: 

  •  Play a pivotal role in mentoring and developing scientists within the organization. Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment, nurturing the next generation of scientific talent
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines, efficient resource allocation, and accountability for deliverables.
  • Apply your profound nutrition expertise and innovative mindset to drive the development of groundbreaking nutrition claims relevant to pet owners, pet parents, and veterinarians.
  • Ensure Hill's products align with our core nutrition philosophy. Integrate scientific findings into actionable product applications, global nutrition standards, claims, and clinical study design.
  • Develop and maintain strong, constructive relationships across the business.
  • Collaborate regularly with Hill's research and development scientists, Regulatory, Legal, Professional Veterinary Affairs, and Hill's Marketing leaders to provide nutrition input and guidance, and assist in claims development.
  • Leverage your 5+ years of clinical practice experience in companion animal case management to inform research and development efforts. 
  • Apply your deep understanding of companion animal physiology and pathology to address nutritional needs and challenges in this field.
  • Apply your proficiency in data analysis methods relevant to clinical nutrition research to derive meaningful insights. 
  • Ensure compliance with global regulatory standards related to pet nutrition, including FEDIAF and AAFCO regulations.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree with a Ph.D. in Veterinary Nutrition, Companion Animal Nutrition, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical research and publication, demonstrating a seasoned researcher (not suitable for recent graduates or individuals at the junior scientist level). 
  • 5+ years of clinical practice experience in companion animal case management preferred. 
  • Proven experience in companion animal physiology and pathology, with a deep understanding of the nutritional needs and challenges in this field.
  • Extensive background in clinical research with a track record of publications in reputable scientific journals, demonstrating a strong focus on research and contribution to the field.
  • Substantial experience in mentoring and developing scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.  Proficiency in data analysis methods relevant to clinical nutrition research. 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  •  Specialization in companion animal nutrition during the Ph.D. program.
  • A solid grasp of global regulatory standards related to pet nutrition, including FEDIAF (European Pet Food Industry Federation) and AAFC
