Primary Supervisor Schedule:
- Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Hours of operation across all locations:
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Position Summary:
Report directly to the Manager of Lab Support Services, following established departmental leadership structure and operational guidance can be entered under key responsibilities. Support management initiatives, policies, and process improvements to ensure consistency across all sites. This role supports six outpatient sites and requires regular travel between locations (mileage reimbursement provided).
The position provides oversite to personnel and has the ability to perform appropriate discipline. The supervisor will be responsible for addressing staffing shortages, handling problem specimens, and/or following up with physicians, families and patients.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Bachelor's in Medical Technology or equivalent related field of science or business degree. (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
At least 3-4 years in an accredited clinical laboratory with some knowledge of specimen processing operations preferred and experience in phlebotomy. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Math Ability Level: Statistical Analysis. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills important. Knowledge and skills related to LIS desirable
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience in a phlebotomy setting. (Preferred)
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing operational needs. (Preferred)
- Demonstrated strength in leadership, conflict resolution, and performance management. (Preferred)
Required Licenses and Certifications
Medical Technologist (MT)
HEW or a similar regulatory agency. Registry or eligible as MT (ASCP). (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities - Oversee daily lab support operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional patient service.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management, including setting expectations, navigating conflict, and implementing corrective action when needed.
- Serve as a backup phlebotomist to maintain workflow and service continuity across sites.
Technical Knowledge
- Perform all technical procedures in the section following standard operating procedures (phlebotomy optional).
- Prepare schedules/assignments.
- Assist in oversight of phlebotomists/lab associates.
- Collaborate with the manager on significant issues or barriers
- Provide leadership and guidance to support staff and direct reports
- Manage performance planning and documentation, and facilitate goal achievement of individuals
- Support continuing education of staff in competency developments in areas of defined responsibility
- Ensure departmental compliance with the hospital's administrative and professional policies, and governmental and accreditation regulations
