Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: Dilkon Medical Center - Dilkon, AZ 86047Position Type: Full-TimeEducation Level: Associate DegreeTravel Percentage: NegligibleJob Shift: AnyUnder the general supervision of the Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Manager, the ED Senior Clinical Nurse (SrCN) is accountable for the department and staff’s coordination of care for patients and their families including, direct patient care, patient education and discharge planning. Ensures they and staff adhere to established emergency department policies, protocols, regulations, and standards. The ED SrCN ensures they and the staff provide nursing care, within scope of practice to patients in accordance with standards of nursing care and provider orders. The ED SrCN is required to ensure efficient and effective delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department environment by all staff. The ED SrCN will function as a real time leader and mentor in the ED clinical setting. The ED SrCN will function as the ED Nurse Manager when needed. The ED SrCN ensures they and the staff uphold the principles of DMC's Vision, Mission, and Value Statements. The ED SrCN ensures they and staff maintain confidentiality of all privileged information at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
Provides safe, high quality patient centered care
Provides direct care to tribal members and service eligible patients in the Emergency Department setting.
Greets patients and provides nursing care to patients with a variety of injuries and illness.
Is familiar with and adheres to the essential duties and responsibilities described in the Emergency Room Clinical Nurse job description.


 

In addition to the above, the following will apply to the ED SrCN:


Assures staffing and medical equipment meet work demands, safety requirements, and accreditation standards.
Oversees the daily nursing schedules and makes changes as appropriate to patient care levels and acuity.
Provides daily oversight of nursing staff including delegation of tasks and duties relevant to positions and the needs of the Emergency Department setting.
In collaboration with multi-departments and the ED Nurse Manager, the ED SrCN develops, implements, evaluates and revises department specific objectives, priorities, QI activities and standards of care and practice which are consistent with those for the overall emergency clinical nursing and WIHCC programs.
Participates in the overall Risk Management activities for the Division of Nursing in collaboration with CNO, ACNO, ED Nurse Manager, and Nurse Educator to assure timely follow up and action plan.
Provides orientation to new staff members and students as well as providing guidance, direction and training.
Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in nursing through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, internal training programs, and serving on nursing committees, teams and functions.
Participates in clinical and peer review to evaluate current practice, and modify and improve practice as needed.
Oversees direct nursing employees in the performance of nursing tasks related to the care of patients.
Continuously studies nursing staff operations to identify areas to improve care, meet patient satisfaction and efficient resource utilization with recommendations of action and consideration given to the ED Nurse Manager.
Assists the nursing administration in maintaining, updating and implementing policies and procedures.
Assists in coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers (intra- and inter-facility) using the patient acuity system as a basis to determine patient needs.
Assists with resolving simple, informal complaints of patients and refer other, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the ED Nurse Manager or follow the proper chain-of-command.
Maintains a clean and safe patient environment.
Requires completion of tasks or duties assigned by a supervisor.
Serves as medical interpreter for Navajo-speaking patients as needed,
Adheres to all professional and ethical behavior standards of the healthcare industry.
Adheres to DMC’s Personnel Policies and Procedures, departmental policies, rules, and regulations.
Interacts in an honest, trustworthy and dependable manner with patients, employees, visitors, and vendors.
Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Maintains compliance with all Human Resources requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing is required. Five years nursing experience required, with the most recent three years in an emergency room setting. Prior Charge Nurse or Leadership ER experience preferred.
