Job Summary:

Supports the licensed healthcare team in performing office examinations and procedures by organizing and managing clinic patient flow, gathering and documenting patient screening data, assisting Provider with documentation support and patient and family education and communication with patient's health care team. All patient care activities are undertaken with the delegation/supervision of a licensed professional in accordance with VUMC standards, licensure, and certification regulations.

7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Friday

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Directs and supports patient flow as well as unit operations by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
• Facilitates identification of resources to meet patient healthcare needs.
• Performs/assists with procedures according to organizational/departmental standards.
• Collects and documents patient screening data for the healthcare team.
• Assists with patient and family education.
• The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
• Leads daily care team huddle and facilitates the care team activities.
• Coordinates any follow-up appointments or procedures required for patient.
• Schedules appointments or procedures through clinical communication or direct request.
• Supports the physician's/advanced practice practitioner documentation and/or activities during the visit.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.
• Environment of Care (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency with set up and maintenance of patient exam room, supplies and equipment.
• Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
• Clinical Patient Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner.
• Medical Terminology & Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Patient Scheduling (Novice): The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines
