Scope: To provide family therapy services to clients and families served in the Skyland Trail Adolescent Residential programs. To identify areas of need within the family structure and use these areas to develop effective treatment planning for therapy sessions. The Family Therapist is responsible for working with clients and families to identify the goals of the family while supporting a teen currently involved in treatment services.
Duties:
- Conduct family therapy sessions with clients and their families that focus on identifying the needs of the family as they relate to the client in treatment at least one time a week, possibly twice a week depending on the family needs.
- Utilize effective therapy skills to promote education and support during therapy sessions.
- Assist family in identifying effective methods of supporting the client currently participating in treatment.
- Maintain appropriate progress notes to document the status of therapy sessions.
- Effectively communicate status of therapy to necessary parties (e.g. treatment team, primary counselors, psychiatrists, additional staff, families).
- Responsible for coordination of scheduling for family therapy sessions.
- Participate in New Family Orientation in order to familiarize the families of new admissions to the expectations/goals of family therapy and treatment at Skyland Trail Adolescent program.
- Assist in the development of additional topics/subject matter to be presented in New Family Orientation.
- Provide additional clinical services and other duties, as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a masters degree in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family
- Must be license eligible or have current, active licensure in the state of Georgia
- Prior experience in providing therapy services in an adolescent residential setting for the treatment of the mentally ill
- Prior experience in facilitating family therapy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
