Tenure-line Faculty Positions in Artificial Intelligence
The Department of Informatics and Intelligent Systems in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for two tenure-line faculty positions in Artificial Intelligence (AI) located in State College, Pennsylvania. The appointments will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and will begin in July of 2026 at the University Park campus.
We seek to build on the strengths of the department in AI, including causal inference, computer vision, human-centered and socially responsible AI, knowledge representation, machine learning, natural language processing, multi-agent systems, AI ethics, and/or transformative AI applications that tackle major scientific and/or societal challenges. We seek scholars who complement our existing strengths, and bring expertise in core areas of AI, or bridge fundamental research in AI with transformative applications in the sciences, healthcare, security, critical infrastructure, public policy, the humanities, and/or social sciences.
The department is home to Penn State’s newly launched undergraduate B.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence Methods and Applications (AIMA) and offers the Applied Data Sciences track of a tri-college B.S. degree in Data Sciences. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct cutting-edge research, supervise and mentor graduate students, secure external funding to support research activities, engage in service activities at the college and university levels, and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners.
Candidates will possess a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Informatics, or a closely related discipline before their appointment start date at Penn State. Applicants for the rank of Assi
