Buyer - Meat/Seafood

Position Overview

Our focus is simple but meaningful, from our distribution centers to our offices — every employee of C&S and their family of companies works to help feed local families, neighbors, and communities. As a Buyer you are responsible for purchasing assigned commodities from multiple vendors for the company to sell to its retail customers. This role must maintain service levels agreements, adhere to budgeted inventory levels, engage with customers on service levels, and partner with vendors to successfully manage all aspects of product flow.

Job Description

• Full Time, On-Site Role

• Location: 2215 Union Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081

You will contribute by:

• Placing purchase orders with vendors in the buying system, leveraging historical data, customer input, and predicted demand.

• Generating and analyzing reports to monitor inventory levels and track product expiration dates in C&S warehouses.

• Negotiating with vendors and customers to optimize product flow and address close-coded, expired, or unproductive inventory.

• Using system tools to analyze purchasing trends and make informed decisions.

• Collaborating with team members to achieve established goals and meet budgeted inventory levels.

• Mentoring Buyer Assistants by organizing priorities, serving as a centralized vendor point of contact, developing inventory projects and initiatives, and managing customer-specific processes.

• Engaging with customers regularly to share successes and address concerns.

• Partnering with the merchandising team to price new items, maintain item data, and meet gross profit objectives.

• Supporting seasonal volume demands, storm recovery, service-level recovery, absences, vacation coverage, and additional training as needed.

We’re searching for candidates with:

• Strong industry knowledge

• Expertise in one or more commodities is preferred

• Ability to build and maintain relationships

• Solid statistical acumen

• Strong interpretation and analytical skills

• Professional verbal and written communication abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively

• At least 1 year of experience in purchasing, 2 years preferred

• Previous retail or grocery experience is preferred

• Office : Office Temperature (65F to 75F)
