Job Description

Team:

ServiceNow Project RaptorDB, based on Postgres, the world's most advanced open‑source database, acts as a foundational data layer that will allow ServiceNow customers to process massive volumes of transactional data on the Now Platform in real time to meet the demands of AI‑powered applications. It adds analytical capabilities to meet advanced reporting and data mining needs. This team is building the core of RaptorDB and even the smallest optimization can have a dramatic impact on our customers and our bottom line.

We are looking for an experienced Sr Manager who will manage the team building the very core of our ServiceNow database.

What you get to do in this role:  

• Drive building the next-gen ServiceNow relational database – an ambitious and high visibility project aimed at very large scale
• Lead a sizeable team of very senior and highly skilled database developers in the US and EMEA
• Partner with experienced product managers and leaders across Data Platform to clarify priorities, coordinate timelines, and negotiate trade-offs
• Manage departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
• Use your passion for relational databases and experience in modern software development to help the team members grow as core database engineers

To be successful in this role you have:

• In depth knowledge of at least one of the popular relational SQL databases – either through a background of developing or managing database internals, or through developing or managing software that heavily uses such a database.
• Strong familiarity with professional software development methodologies, such as but not limited to test driven development, automated testing, continuous integration/continuous delivery
• Servant-leader mindset – leading through guidance, coaching, and building followers
• Experience with managing software written in low level languages such as C or C++
• Experience with agile software development methodologies and operating as a manager in a highly self-organized team, including providing direction and support
• Proven ability to build cross organizational bridges and working in a matrix organization
• Affinity to statistics and data driven decision making

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience developing/managing relational SQL database internals OR  
• 6+ years of experience developing/managing a software product using a relational SQL database as the core component 
• You managed software products written in a low-level language like C or C++ 
• 4+ years as a software development manager for a complex product that requires sophisticated testing 
• Excellent communication skills and track record of leading cross-cultural teams
