Regional Fleet Manager

Smart Environmental Ltd
Tasman, New Zealand, New Zealandfull_timeVerifiedPosted 13 Nov 2025

About the role

Smart Environmental Limited works on behalf of local councils, businesses, and communities across New Zealand. Acquired by Blue Planet, our mission is to divert waste from landfill. With a large fleet of collection vehicles and line haul operations, we are committed to driving sustainability for the communities and businesses we serve.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Regional Fleet Manager to join our national team managing over 700 fleet assets across a diverse operational footprint. This role can be based in either the Central North Island (Rotorua) or Upper South Island (Nelson/Tasman) and reports directly to the General Manager – Fleet & Systems.

This is a hands-on, high-trust role for someone with strong transport engineering or heavy diesel mechanical experience, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. The portfolio is broad, and no two days are the same. Regular travel is required - often at short notice - so flexibility and resilience are essential.

You will lead and coordinate regional fleet operations, maintaining accurate and up-to-date fleet data. You’ll support operational teams by maximising asset life through preventative maintenance, managing the full lifecycle of vehicles and equipment from procurement to disposal, supporting warranty claims and compliance, and coordinating equipment delivery across the country. You will also ensure fleet compliance, safety, and operational efficiency.

To be successful in this role, you will be familiar with digital fleet management systems and ideally have some auto-electrical knowledge. You’ll be a strong project manager with excellent coordination and time management skills. You’ll build and maintain strong relationships across internal teams and external suppliers, ensuring policies and procedures are documented, implemented, and followed. You’ll proactively identify areas of improvement, contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture, and be willing to roll up your sleeves when needed.

We are looking for someone with a Class 1, 2, and 4 driver’s licence as a minimum, with Class 5 and WTR endorsements being advantageous. You’ll bring exceptional communication skills, practical problem-solving ability, and a strong commitment to teamwork - the kind of person who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty from time to time.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) offering a competitive salary package and the opportunity to grow within an organisation that values innovation, sustainability, and its people.

If you’re ready to bring your experience and energy to a supportive and forward-thinking organisation, apply online today. For a confidential discussion, contact Jonathan Dick on 027 217 2076.
