SUMMARY

The Community Liaison assists administrators, counselors, Student Prevention Intervention and Behavior Intervention Specialist in determining the need for and coordinating partnerships with the community to meet the social service needs of the school. Promotes staff and student awareness of the campus and community social service resources.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as a liaison to connect parents, staff, and students to resources, on campus social emotional support programs, and community agency referrals. Networks with various agencies to support the needs of students and staff.
  • Maintains databases from campus, family and community engagement supports and intervention programs to ensure compliance with District policies. Collects data and statistics for dropout prevention reports and/or district-level reports.
  • Creates and maintains a database to track community agency partnerships and volunteers; develops and maintains documentation including contracts and other required forms to include work agreement and volunteer application forms to ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with administration and other Student Support Services Staff to meet the needs of students. Refer students and their families to outside agencies for medical, dental, mental health, social services, and other resources. Assists with scheduling appointments and providing follow-up as needed.
  • Gathers evaluation information to monitor the success of programs and shares information with administration, counselors, the School improvement Team or other appropriate groups. Coordinates and reviews data from Student Support Services and outside agencies to compile monthly reports.
  • Serves as the campus coordinator for mandated groups and interventions; creates the campus schedule, reserves the group rooms, and ensures each group has two trained facilitators present for meetings.
  • Oversees and coordinates the District volunteer clearance process and operational procedures at the campus level. Assist administrators and counselors in ensuring campus representation as a co-facilitator or in a support role when social service or community agency staff are working with PXU students.
  • Works with counselors, administration, and/or social workers to organize workshops and training for parents, staff and/or students on the programs and services available through the school/community partnerships.
  • Creates and maintains a database of students who receive social services through school and community partnerships. Provides follow up and regular monitoring of students who are involved in interventions. Uses data to inform evaluation.
  • Serve as a member of the campus crisis intervention team and interacts as a member of the support services team housed in the counseling office.
  • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; degree or college level coursework preferred; AND one year of experience working with at risk youth programs; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Fluency in language of the target population to be served is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Skill in researching and compiling data for reports, presentations, and technical documents.
  • Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy at a rate to perform functions effectively.
  • Ability to operate computer and computer software as well as general office equipment.<
