Temporary Laboratory Assistant (Days)

As a temporary day-shift Laboratory Assistant at IDEXX, you will be assisting with some of the many tasks vital to the running of our network of Reference Labs. We receive thousands of clinical samples (blood, urine, fecal samples) every day from Veterinary Clinics, and we run tests on those samples to help veterinarians identify what might be wrong with someone's pet.   In this role, you will be helping to sort, tag, and prepare veterinary samples for testing.  Every sample you help to move along quickly and accurately in the process means we are one step closer to finding out how or why the pet might be sick.  Thanks to you, someone's very beloved pet will get the treatment plan they need - how great is that?

In This Role:   

• Currently, our greatest need is in our Sample Management/Specimen Accessioning area, and our Parasitology area: 

• You might be unbagging, sorting, tagging, or moving clinical samples around the laboratory.   

• You may be restocking supplies, such as chemicals or slide trays.   

• You could be helping to load analyzers with slides of samples. 

• You will be responsible for following SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

• You might be assisting with inventory counts.   

• You can expect to work in one or more of the following departments:  

  • Parasitology

  • Patient Sample Management

• You will be asked to help in many ways – and your help is needed! Your daily tasks will positively impact the lives of pets.

Pay & Schedule:  

• Hourly rates targeting: $18.00

• This is a long-term, temporary, day-shift position where you will work 40 hours/week.

• The scheduled shifts are:

  • Parasitology Dept:  Tuesday - Saturday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

  • Sample Management Dept: Monday - Friday 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM

    • Weekend Rotations are required. So, typically, you'll work Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday off; every third week, you'll work 4 weekdays plus a Saturday shift, and have one day off during the week and Sunday.

• This is a busy time of year in the lab, so you may be asked to stay until the work is complete.

• The schedule may vary based on business needs.

• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.

What You Will Need to Succeed:   

• You are able and willing to work the schedule above. 

• You are reliable and flexible – attendance is an essential function of the position.   

• Data entry skills are a big plus. 

• A willingness to work with and around veterinary samples, including blood, urine, fecal, and biopsy. 

• You are excited to work in a fast-paced, high volume busy work environment. You are able to sit or stand for long periods of time; you do not mind being on your feet and moving throughout the day as needed. 

• You can read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), material safety data sheets (MSDSs), operating and maintenance instructions, government rules, and technical procedures.    

• You must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.    

• You possess strong initiative and follow through with outstanding attention to detail.    

• You are able to work independently and as a team contributor.   

• You have demonstrated a high level of customer service.    <
