Job Purpose:
The Senior Payroll Manager is responsible for one or more HR and/or Payroll operations functional units (e.g., payroll processing, labor, audit and control, taxation and garnishments, etc.). This role focuses on the strategic direction of the function and operational efficiency including making recommendations for operational enhancements/process improvements via trend analysis, monitoring volumes and workflow to ensure processing standards and deadlines are consistently met and capturing and reporting on operational metrics. Analytical and methodical, with experience in payroll administration and deep knowledge of payroll regulations. This role ensures payroll procedures are compliant, efficient, and current.
Your tasks:
- Manages the performance of the payroll operations team
- Provide strong oversight of U.S. multi-state payroll functions. Ensure an accurate and timely payroll, including but not limited to salary, equity, bonus, benefits and taxes. Lead the implementation of any new payroll platforms or upgrades, if required
- Provide input to and leads implementation of Payroll processes and timelines considering internal/ external best practices, local legislation and alignment requirements of multiple business units
- Operate as a subject matter expert in payroll audits, compliance, and controls
- Perform audits on data and system maintenance to ensure accuracy and adherence to service level agreements
- Makes recommendations for and executes against operational enhancements and process improvements via trend analysis.
- Captures and reports on operational metrics and understands impact to dependent or related processes; communicates metrics to other areas of the HR and PR operations organization or broader business.
- Provide knowledge and guidance, and oversee the day-to-day activities of payroll specialists, and operate as an organizational escalation point to resolve escalations and/or complex issues with regards to payroll or timekeeping matters
- Develop and maintain pay policies, payroll calendars, payroll checklists, process maps, and other procedural documentation for the Payroll Operations department
- Gather inputs, review reports and feedback to identify patterns of errors and scope for improvement of Payroll processes
- Review and conduct activities such as accounting, distributing and preparing payments, benefits, taxes, and payroll deductions
- Review and oversee payroll records maintained by the team
- Responsible for managing 3rd party and/or internal relationships with vendors and/or internal business partners related to payroll and timekeeping
- Communicate and influence senior business leaders outside of own job area to accept practices and approaches
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with senior business leaders across DPDHL
- Cooperate with and coordinate 3rd parties e.g., external service providers
- May lead negotiations
- Bachelor's Degree
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
- 10+ years of payroll experience, including expertise in a multi-state payroll environment
- Extensive US payroll experience and expertise
- Experience leading and managing a team
