Summary
The City of Oxnard’s Fire Department is seeking an Administrative Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Extra Help with strong technical and customer service skills to be a part of the team. The ideal candidate is hard-working and enjoys helping others.
What You’ll Do:
Under general supervision, the Administrative EMT
Provides general support for the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services Programs
Maintains department equipment, medical suppy, and provides other logistical and administrative support as needed.
Assist department staff with community outreach, events and educational training efforts
Provide support to interdepartmental continuing education programs,
Assist with EMS program data entry and retrieval.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The EMT class is distinguished by its responsibility for performance of Basic Life Support for the Fire Department. This class does not require ambulance driving/transport.SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Extra-Help positions are not expected to last more than 960 hours. Under the terms of the City's benefits plan and policies, this position is not eligible for benefits due to the short duration of employment. In this position, employment with the City of Oxnard is at will, and those selected for temporary placement retain the option, as does the City of Oxnard, to end employment at any time, with or without notice and with or without cause.
Examples of duties
Include but are not limited to the following:Assistance with educational support and certification maintenance for the department’s EMS continuing education program.
Provide assistance with community education outreach and injury prevention efforts through direct public engagement (eg;Stop the bleed, Sidewalk CPR, Fall Prevention)
Provide logistical support, EMS supply restocking, supply room maintenance, inventory and delivery to fire stations
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports such as patient care reports, and equipment and station logs.
Maintain confidentiality and protected health information (PHI) by following all Federal, State, County, and City laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
Perform station and EMS equipment cleaning and maintenance; perform preventative maintenance on applicable apparatus and equipment.
Participate in ongoing training and maintain knowledge and understanding of Ventura County Emergency Medical Services Agency (VCEMSA) rules, procedures, and protocols; California State EMS policies and procedures; department rules, regulations, and procedures; and other training and job-related materials.
May administer CPR, defibrillation as necessary, basic airway management, medication administration, take and monitor vital signs, perform triage, bandage wounds, splint limbs, etc.
Maintain a state of readiness by checking assigned supplies and equipment at the start of each shift and as needed.
Monitor and operate related communication equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
