In alignment with our Corporate Strategy, SNV Tanzania focuses on three sectors namely Food Systems and Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Water.</p><h3>Job Description</h3><p>The Junior Advisor will be responsible for working under the WASH SDG Programme that focuses on improving sanitation services and hygiene practices in Arusha City and Shinyanga Municipality.</p><p>Key responsibilities include the following:</p><ul><li>Lead the technical advice and implementation of the Treatment, Disposal and Reuse and Safe and Affordable Services component activities, specifically focusing on technical trouble-shooting, supervising technical modifications, and advising the PM on both O&amp;M and Technical solutions.</li><li>Provide high quality, evidence based advisory services on Treatment, disposal and reuse, including developing training materials and delivering capacity building sessions to key stakeholders.</li><li>Provide high quality, evidence based advisory services on Safe and affordable services for relevant city authorities, specifically in relation to public toilets and emptying services.</li><li>Monitor the results of the Safe and affordable services and Treatment, disposal and reuse components activities and provide critical input to ensure the sustainability of these services.</li><li>Support exchanges between city authorities and support a good communication flow between the Local and National Government, and the USHHD project team.</li><li>Actively contribute to all the learning elements of the programme relating to technical issues, including preparing abstracts for conferences, developing presentations and delivering these, writing up learning briefs, contributing to social media messages and key project and donor reports</li><li>Ensure the USHHD’s project visibility and profiling in line with SNV’s and partners branding guidelines.</li><li>Comply with SNV’s administrative and financial procedures for project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.</li><li>Contribute technical inputs in any business development opportunities.</li><li>Comply with SNV’s Code of Conduct</li></ul><p>Any other relevant duties as shall be determined by the PM or Management team</p><p>Functional Competencies - demonstrated ability in:</p><ul><li><strong>Technical Skills and Knowledge: </strong>Quality and up-to-date knowledge and experience of faecal sludge management treatment, disposal and re-use options, particularly in the operation and maintenance of natural-based treatment plants and their re-use components</li><li><strong>Monitoring &amp; Evaluation: </strong>Sound experience of monitoring and evaluation tools and approaches, specifically in relation to treatment and re-use monitoring (e.g.: effluent monitoring, co-compost lab testing etc), and ability to concisely summarise key findings and recommendations</li><li><strong>Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: </strong>Ability to coordinate, communicate effectively and trigger consensus among a wide range of stakeholders including government officials, Researchers, NGO representatives, emptier groups, fundi associations and other sanitation groups</li><li><strong>Research: </strong>Ability to carry out research into technical areas related to treatment, services and re-use and compile reports</li><li><strong>Documentation: </strong>Ability to document and write up learning briefs, take photos, write blogs and similar communication materials related to technical aspects of the programme</li><li><strong>Computer and software proficiency</strong> – Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint essential and knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS/QGIS or similar geospatial software an advantage</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Bachelor’s level degree in water and sanitation engineering or related disciplines is essential</li><li>A minimum of 3 years work of experience with development programmes focusing on faecal sludge management, water, sanitation and hygiene issues</li><li>Experience in supporting the operation and maintenance of faecal sludge treatment plants essential and faecal sludge re-use aspects desirable</li><li>Experience in preparing and delivering technical capacity-building sessions</li><li>Hands-on experience in coordinating and facilitating multi-stakeholder discussions</li><li>Excellent communication skills in English and Swahili (both written and oral), including very strong report writing and presentation skills.</li><li>Willingness to travel</li><li>Expertise and use of GIS tools
