Job Description Summary

Working under the general direction of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, The Seasonal Assistant (Recruiting/Operational Assistant Coach) will be a strong proponent of team initiatives, such as: “The Miami Way” and “Strive for Magis”. They will abide by all Miami University, Mid-American Conference (MAC), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations. They will work closely, and collaboratively, with other departments within Miami University Athletics.

Job Description

This position is considered a Sport Specific Countable Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team, and duties may include:

Oversight of the Men’s Basketball video operations including, but not limited to:

  • Recording, editing, summarizing practice/game film,
  • Maintaining cataloging the video playbook

Assisting with recruiting initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Editing prospective student-athlete film submissions
  • Graphic design
  • Organizing logistical aspects of official/unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes
  • Maintaining recruiting boards
  • Preparation of permissible recruiting materials for coaches
  • Organizing playing schedules of prospective student-athletes
  • Tracking the Transfer Portal and preparing a report for coaches to utilize

Collection and analysis of statistical information including, but not limited to:

  • Tracking statistics during practices and competitions
  • Providing summarized data for the Coaching Staff
  • Preparation of scouting reports, documents, and summaries for coaching staffs assigned

Assisting with Men’s Basketball Social Media presence including, but not limited to:

  • Tracking prospective student-athlete social media posts
  • Generating content for the Miami Men’s Basketball social media pages
  • Working with the Athletic Communications and Marketing staff in promotional aspects

Assisting with Academic endeavors of the Men’s Basketball Program including, but not limited to:

  • Tracking class attendance and overseeing the class check program
  • Tracking attendance of meetings with athletic academic staff

Oversight of the Men’s Basketball student manager program including, but not limited to:

  • Working with the Athletic Compliance Office to ensure all managers are meeting NCAA rules and regulations
  • Hiring and training of student managers
  • Preparing student manager work schedules
  • Assigning duties to student managers

Assisting in the organization of institutional camps/clinics including, but not limited to:

  • Promotion of camp/clinic offerings within NCAA rules and regulations,
  • Tracking registrations and proper documentation,
  • Creation of game schedules, drill work, skill instruction plans,
  • Oversight of the chaperoning of participants during overnight camp/clinic offerings.

Assisting in team culture initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Team Motivation (Rebounding bubble, EGB Chain, Black & Gold Jersey, etc)
  • Maintain Locker room signage (Defensive Ranking, Conference Standings, etc)

Assisting with operational logistics including, but not limited to:

  • Meal orders
  • Setup/Cleanup
  • Assisting with on court practice duties including, but not limited to:

Organizing and facilitating individual and small group practice activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Collegiate Basketball Program
  • Bachelor's Degree
