About the role

Description

In this role, you will work collaboratively with our breast surgery team, to provide care for patients with breast cancer as well as other non-cancerous breast disease.  As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), you will be entrusted with evaluating and treating selected patients within this service area.  This will include new patients and follow-up patients.  Your responsibilities will encompass physical examinations, direct patient interactions (both in-person and through electronic means).  Flexibility is vital, as all NP's/PA's may be required to cover nearby clinical sites to ensure comprehensive patient support.  You may also be involved with quality improvement, research, and educational activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Takes histories and performs physical examinations.
  • Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
  • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
  • Interprets laboratory and test results.
  • Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • This is mostly an outpatient position.  But there may be rare occasion for inpatient care, such as rounds, discharge planning, discharge summaries, and prescriptions.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs, ARC-PA) program.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education.
  • Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Physician Assistant.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - NURSE PRACTITIONER:

  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) by the New York State Department of Education.
  • Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • National Practitioner Certification issued by the National Certification Corporation (NCC), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (AANPCB).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with breast exams, or other types of breast exams.
  • Breast surgery experience (at least 2 years).
