Purpose

The Technical Service Engineer II or Lead will lead efforts in two key focus areas for the TimkenSteel Corporation: quality of our products and service to our customers. This role excels at providing technical service geared at resolving customer issues and developing solutions for improved service. Technical service responsibilities include technical interaction with the customer, providing timely resolution of complaints, seeking out new opportunities, and assuring TimkenSteel product meets our customer’s needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Solve technical problems with timely resolution of material claims and complaints and ensures complete documentation into our Global Quality Tracking System.
  • Work together with Manufacturing, Met QA, Supply Chain, and Sales to serve as the facilitator of corrective action responses to customer claims.
  • Support communication from the front-end group back to the appropriate mill-based contact to drive improved adherence to customer specifications.
  • Leverage relationships with manufacturing, supply chain, and sales/marketing to develop foundational knowledge of the technical requirements for customer products and processes.
  • Participate in non-claim related customer calls and communicate technical developments in partnership with the sales and application development engineers.
  • The Technical Service Engineering Lead will provide internal leadership and act as a subject matter expert for the team.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in material science or related engineering field; with 2-5 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development; OR
  • Master's degree in material science or related engineering field; with 0-2 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in material science or related engineering field; with 7-10 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development; OR
  • Master's degree in material science or related engineering field; with 5-7 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development

 

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, steel making and processing
  • Preliminary/intermediate knowledge of TimkenSteel manufacturing facilities and capabilities
  • Strong communication skills applied toward managing cross-functional activities to serve customers
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with customers, peers, and associates
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PC usage
  • Ability to multitask and manage numerous claims/issues
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and present results to groups of associates
  • Preliminary/intermediate metallurgical knowledge of heat treat, forming processes and microstructures
