It is exciting to be part of SIE's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. SRE teams operate at the intersection of Software Engineering and Infrastructure Engineering. These teams strive to make the PlayStation Network Platform a highly reliable, scalable, operable, and secure product and service. As an SRE, you are ultimately responsible for system reliability, developer efficiency, and reducing time to market by targeting to minimize the technical debt of the services your SRE team supports. We seek engineers passionate about system reliability to influence and uplift the strategic SRE mission.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation. We seek a Database Engineer within the Data & Shared Services Engineering team, which is part of the Platform & Engineering Enablement Group. This fast-paced position supports establishing a linear scale, highly available, fault-tolerant, globally distributed data and services platform. The individual's primary responsibilities will include contributing to implementing and delivering the end-to-end automation platform to support real-time database activities, focusing on developer self-service capabilities. This position requires extensive technical expertise and knowledge of cloud environments and databases, preferably Oracle and AWS RDS. Broad industry knowledge, strong customer focus, and good communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage, influence, and promote SRE practices with development, operational, and product groups to align technology service/solution delivery.
  • Drive quality accountability within the organization with well-defined processes, metrics, and goals.
  • Manage availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency of Shared Services development by instilling engineering reliability into our development life cycle with a focus on fault-tolerant approaches.
  • Drive capacity planning, performance analysis, instrumentation, and other non-functional systems requirements.
  • Must be able to define and report "progress" on strategic initiates and project-level tasks to all stakeholders including senior executives and clients and use practical communication approaches with each constituency.
  • Implement metrics-driven processes to ensure service quality targets are met.

Key skills:

  • Expert knowledge in all aspects of designing, developing, managing large real-time systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of version control
  • Expert knowledge of Linux OS capabilities
  • Good understanding of DevOps concepts and standard methodologies
  • CI/CD implementation expertise
  • Issue troubleshooting experience
  • Prior successful experience as a systems performance or site/systems reliability engineer.
  • Proficiency in fault-tolerant approaches in a large-scale distributed environment and high-performance systems
  • Demonstrated experience
