In this part-time role, caregivers work closely with pharmacists, fellow technicians, nurses, and support staff to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and delivery of medications for all inpatient populations, an essential component of safe, high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include typical inpatient pharmacy functions such as medication deliveries, carousel operations, sterile compounding, inventory management, and medication filling, with opportunities for training in oncology. A caregiver in this position works primarily first shift from 7:00am to 2:30pm, 7:30am to 4:00pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm. Rotations include every other weekend and holiday including 2 holidays per year. This part-time role will also be open to availability such as Monday, Wednesday, Friday or two full-time days, 5 full-time shifts per pay period. Must have every other available Saturday and Sunday.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventory of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training.
  • Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current licensure in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 18 months of hire
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

•     Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
