Position summary
The Metrology Supervisor leads a team of technicians that employ a wide variety of measurement equipment, measurement methods, and data acquisition and analysis systems to support the BorgWarner Ithaca campus in the following ways: In-process inspections, R&D, new product launch, supplier measurement system verification, PPAP, gauge calibration, problem solving, dimensional reports to internal, external customers, and new suppliers and ensures the lab’s compliance to ISO 9001/IATF16949 and applicable Customer Specific Requirements.
The Metrology Lab Supervisor ensures suitable equipment, gages and tools are available, calibrated and in good repair for all measurements required in production and laboratory. .
Key accountabilities
Analyzes work requirements and outlines the schedules and methods to be followed for conformance to industry standards including ISO9001/IATF16949 and ISO 14000.
Provides direction and support to team members in the design, construction, and operation of complex inspection systems.
Investigates and applies for capital to obtain the necessary measurement equipment and systems required to verify that our parts meet BorgWarner and customers’ requirements.
Reviews, prioritizes, assigns, and follows up on Metrology inspection requests.
Manage capital and expense budgets to meet business goals.
Responsible for meeting each customer requirement of annual dimensional layout for all products machined or assembled in production.
Responsible for maintaining and administering the campus wide gauge and equipment calibration system.
Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting, and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Knowledge and experience with Metrology, Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Gage Calibration
Knowledge and experience with Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM).
Working knowledge of electronic components preferred.
Must work independently with minimal supervision.
Minimum two years supervisory experience preferred.
Must be a team player who can work and succeed in a fast-paced, ever changing production work environment.
Must be able to handle multiple technical projects with shifting priorities.
Must be a highly motivated self-starter with exemplary organizational skills.
Strong attention to details.
Familiarity with computer programming helpful.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, customers, and suppliers.
Proven ability to motivate and lead in a team environment.
Compensation
$90,000 - $143,000
