Description

Bargaining Unit/Salary Level:  This is a non-benefitted, 10-12 hours per week, $55 per hour, for 10-12 weeks with the possibility of extension.  Evening class schedule in-person, on campus and online.

 

SUMMARY
York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution with a proud 30-year history of transforming lives and communities throughout York County, Maine, is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as Lead Instructor for the Dental Assisting Short-Term Training Program. This part-time, contract position is responsible for delivering hybrid instruction—including in-person lectures, labs, and online components—during evening hours. The program prepares students for entry-level roles in dental offices and clinical settings and includes preparation for the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam as part of the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification process.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in dental assisting education or clinical practice, committed to hands-on instruction, and passionate about student development. They will work closely with YCCC’s Workforce Development team to deliver engaging, relevant training that meets student needs and employer expectations.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in dental assisting, including didactic, lab, and online coursework

  • Teach and prepare students for the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam

  • Provide academic support and mentorship to students throughout the training program

  • Ensure safety and proper use of equipment and materials in lab settings

  • Coordinate lab and clinical simulation sessions as appropriate

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate attendance and assessment records

  • Communicate regularly with college staff regarding program outcomes and student success

  • Participate in orientation, training, or evaluation meetings as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience as a dental assistant, including experience with radiographic procedures

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching or training (formal or informal settings)

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with technology and ability to deliver hybrid instruction (in-person and online components)

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Current Maine Radiographer License

  • Prior teaching experience in postsecondar
