About the role
Job Summary:
Serves as the primary risk management leader responsible for reviewing, assessing, developing, and executing all policies and protocols related to risk, insurance, and safety programs for Rivers Casino Portsmouth. Oversees workers’ compensation, OSHA compliance, loss mitigation, recovery actions, and business continuity while providing operational oversight and strategic guidance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Partners closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure proactive risk prevention and a strong culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
- Manages real-time incidents and long-term programs with sound judgment, clear communication, and professionalism.
- Continuously evaluates processes, recommends improvements, and implements enhancements that protect the property, employees, guests, and company assets in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Reviews, documents, investigates, and resolves guest, vendor, and Team Member incidents.
- Communicates promptly, professionally, and empathetically.
- Handles matters with sensitive and/or confidential information in a professional manner.
- Administers the Complimentary Privileges Program in accordance with the approved Compensation Matrix.
- Maintains a current, working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and local safety and risk regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Develops and maintains the Written Workplace Safety Program ensuring compliance with all OSHA standards and regulations to ensure full regulatory compliance and operational safety readiness.
- Maintains all required OSHA recordkeeping relating to Workers Compensation injuries/illnesses.
- Conducts regular audits of all outstanding workers’ compensation claims and follows up to ensure the claims are properly administered to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely closure.
- Leads the property Safety Committee and coordinates the meetings, department representation, and follow-up actions.
- Develops and facilitates the company safety training programs, including new-hire orientation.
- Develops, implements, and continuously improves safety procedures, focusing on accident prevention.
- Monitors and aligns other departmental policies and procedures with safety and compliance requirements.
- Maintains claim files on all Property and Casualty claims. Coordinates with insurers and brokers.
- Serves as liaison between Rivers Casino Portsmouth and the company’s third-party administrator (TPA), ensuring timely claim submission, tracking, and resolution of all claims.
- Reviews and ensures accuracy of invoices and other documentation from the third-party administrator and/or insurance companies related to Rivers Casino Portsmouth’s business.
- Manage the subpoena log and respond to requests for information.
- Advise the General Counsel and senior leadership on emerging risk issues, loss trends, and mitigation strategies.
- Assist in business continuity planning and recovery preparedness.
- Serve as the primary contact for outside entities related to fire, safety or other inspections (except for F&B health department inspections or PLCB/liquor inspections).
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ risk management and 3-5 years’ multi-line claims handling and insurance program administration experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
- Ability to obtain and maintain license as required by jurisdiction(s).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have the ability to remain professional and tolerate stress related to servicing public guests in a high-pressure environment, including on the Casino gaming floor.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with quick deadlines, multiple demands and the constantly shifting needs of very busy operating departments.
- Must be able to constantly and accurately communicate effectively and politely in spoken and written English with Team Members and Guests.
- Must be able to traverse through the Casino to review safety issues and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, detail-oriented approach.
- A detail-oriented professional comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment who can manage real-time incidents and long-term risk programs without losing their composure or sense of humor
