Energy Department
In this newly created department, the Energy Department is dedicated to managing and optimizing the energy resources required to power our data centers while promoting sustainability and efficiency. The Energy department plays a critical role in ensuring our operations are environmentally responsible, cost-effective, and resilient to energy market fluctuations. The team focuses on energy procurement, renewable energy integration, and the implementation of advanced energy management practices.
Position Overview
Vantage seeks an experienced Energy Development Project Manager that performs overall administrative, technical, financial, and resource management of substation and power projects in the initial bid stage. The Energy Development PM is responsible for technical and project management review in Stage Gate 0. This person must have the ability to provide guidance and support to the Energy Business Development team. Substation construction background is essential.
Constant coordination with Market Development, Power Planning, New Site Development, Design, Construction, Operations, Sales, Solutions Engineering, Marketing, subject matter experts and the wider Executive Team (specifically with regards to strategic elements) will be required to keep pace with Vantage’s strategic land acquisition and leasing goals, including enhancing Vantage’s product and service offering wherever possible.
Essential Job Functions
Managing and leading substation, transmission and distribution project due diligence in Gate 0. Including risk evaluation, schedule, long lead equipment, and budget management.
Works directly with the site selection, business development, power delivery, and project execution team to ensure successful hand-off of projects.
Duties – Energy Development Project Manager
Responsible for the overall power infrastructure due diligence and schedule management of multiple concurrent projects
Define problems, collect information, and establish facts to provide an appropriate resolution
Lead by vetting 3rd party sites and provide guidance to Energy Business Development leads
Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
Setup, organize, update, and maintain electronic and printed files of project documents utilizing various systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and SharePoint; and others
Schedule and manage subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers
Ability to interpret and act on terms and conditions within contracts in consultation with company’s legal team to protect company’s interest while maintaining good relationships
Review cost reports and evaluate methods to reduce cost while maintaining productivity
Manage budget projection for labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors procured on the project
Responsible for project cost forecasting, monthly cost to complete development, and accuracy of reporting
Responsible for productivity, efficient use of materials/equipment, and contractual performance at Gate 0
Develop, submit, track, and maintain all project submittals and requests for information
Monitor and manage project scope and develop, negotiate, submit, track, and maintain client and/or 3rd party submittal changes.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, (Civil or Electrical preferred), Business Administration, or Construction Management
Five plus years of experience in project or construction management with a specific focus on substation construction preferred
PMP certification preferred
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of project management, project controls, contract management, budgeting, estimating, schedules, negotiations, construction management (technology, equipment, methods), and safety required
Develop and track metrics with respect to campus and site actual and planned power usage
Oversee aspects to obtain sufficient capacity and design for new HV and MV utility projects (physical construction owned/driven by construction team)
