Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other.  We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

The “Senior Site Systems Engineering Specialist – Construction Industries” plays a key role in defining, integrating, and validating end to end site technology capabilities for construction operations. This position enables scalable, reusable site system solutions by leveraging systems engineering practices and a common representation of site solutions that can be applied across industries (such as construction, surface mining, and underground mining). The role requires the ability to operate effectively in environments with incomplete or evolving requirements and to find balanced solutions when stakeholders present conflicting needs.

This role collaborates with both machine and office product teams and works closely with delivery-team architects to ensure integrated solutions conform to established system patterns, interfaces, and engineering standards. The Senior Site Systems Engineering Specialist actively supports New Product Introduction (NPI) programs by defining solution requirements—even in the face of ambiguity—ensuring the solution architecture is validated against those requirements, and reporting progress toward NPI deliverables to the Site Systems Tech Lead/Program Manager. The engineer must demonstrate adaptability in managing unclear or changing requirements and possess the interpersonal skills needed to reconcile and address competing stakeholder priorities across jobsite stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

  • Define and maintain end to end construction site solution requirements, interfaces, and constraints, using a common representation that supports reuse across industries and products.
  • Interface with machine teams (onboard/embedded) and office software teams to deliver integrated solutions for construction, ensuring consistent system behaviors and data flows end to end.
  • Partner with architects from delivery teams to shape solution architecture and define interface contracts for construction jobsites.
  • Lead architecture activities within NPI programs for construction solutions, including requirements traceability, verification planning, technical reviews, and evidence collection for NPI gates/deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain key systems engineering artifacts for construction site solutions and ensure they remain current as products evolve.
  • Drive cross team integration planning and support resolution of cross product issues impacting construction site solution performance.
  • Lead and participate in technical reviews and architectural governance forums, protecting long term solution integrity and ensuring construction jobsite needs are represented in enterprise decisions.
  • Report regularly to the Site Systems Tech Lead/Program Manager on progress, risks, and mitigations toward NPI deliverables, escalating gaps and driving closure with accountable teams.

What You Have:

  • Systems Engineering: Demonstrated experience defining and managing system requirements across complex, multi team product environments. Proven ability to define end to end solution architecture and interfaces, drive integration strategies, and influence technical direction across machine and office products.
  • Construction Domain Knowledge: Applied experience with construction operations and constraints (jobsite safety, mixed-fleet environments, variable terrain/weather, temporary networks, and shifting schedules). Ability to translate construction workflows (planning, layout, execution, as-builts, and progress tracking) into scalable site solution definitions that can be reused across industries.
  • Problem Solving & Integration: Extensive experience recognizing, anticipating, and resolving complex cross team integration problems. Ability to apply engineering judgment with incomplete data, competing priorities, and long term consequences, while driving alignment on interfaces and validation approach.
  • Architecture & Engineering Tooling: Hands on experience with systems engineering and architecture practices/tools used to define and validate complex solutions (e.g., requ
