About the role

The Campus Rec Student Worker is responsible for performing operational tasks for Campus Recreation programs and facilities. They will provide excellent customer service, maintain facility and asset cleanliness, ensure that all policies are followed by guests and participants, and ensure all safety measures are being implemented.

The LaHaye Rec Rock Wall Monitor is responsible for performing operational tasks and maintaining cleanliness at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center Rock Wall. They will ensure that all policies are followed by guests and that all safety measures are being implemented at the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for ensuring customer safety, facility cleanliness, effective operations, and a high level of customer service, at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center Rock Wall, during operational hours.
  • Assist in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies at the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center Rock Wall, ensuring compliance with University policies.
  • Responsible for checking-in students, assigning rental equipment to customers, and assisting in teaching rock wall classes.
  • Responsible for assisting with the setting of routes and boulder problems and belaying and instructing all those in need at facility.
  • Effectively communicate any issues or customer complaints to the Rock Wall Manager on shift.
  • Responsible to ensure clean and organized indoor facilities through stocking supplies and maintaining clean public spaces.
  • Responsible to assist with maintenance of rental equipment and the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center Rock Wall, including regular cleaning.
  • Regularly assist with events and operations during evening, nights or weekend hours.
  • Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Rock Wall Coordinator to assist with Campus Recreation operations and programming.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Liberty University student
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Ability to work up to 18 hours per week
  • Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in rock climbing, rock wall maintenance, and climbing education or instruction
  • Experience in a customer service position
  • Desire to pursue recreation management as a career field

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB

Communication and Comprehension

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Problem Solving

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • Frequently required to sit or stand in one location for extended periods to perform tasks assigned to varying positions.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move around the facility.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds.
  • Ability to complete tasks at heights up to 40ft.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

  • The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled rock-climbing area. The area is well lit and the noise level is moderate.

Pay Rate

Starting at $12.77
