Job Description

To work with members to help with their financial difficulties, analyze each collection scenario to ensure maximum benefit to both the member and the credit union while either eliminating, minimizing or mitigating loss by effective real estate collection practices. The Mortgage Collection Specialist is responsible for real estate collections (CRE & Mortgage), modification and loss mitigation servicing, and foreclosure of real property. Minimize exposure to loss to Credit Union and ensure maximum return to Credit Union members. Provide member service by responding to member requests pursuant to Federal Lending Regulations, Investor, The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Credit Union policy and procedure.

Essential Functions
  • Mortgage/CRE Loan Collections: Mortgage Insurance loss mitigation and servicing guidelines. Adhere to the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) requirements and timelines for responding to member loan modification, payoff requests. Document compliance of such actions.
  • Real Estate Owned Monitoring: Ensure Foreclosures are maintained, taxes paid and insurance added etc. Work with realtors during sale prior to OREO GL transfer.
  • Mortgage Insurance Filing and Monitoring: Ensure proper reporting and claim filing using proper timelines. Ensure Accuracy of reporting.
  • Foreclosures: Recommend defaulted real estate loans for foreclosure. Ensure all State and Federal laws are followed through the process. Coordinate foreclosures with Ent Attorney for any needed information or documents. Continue attempts at out-reach and property inspections per guidelines.
  • Administrative Duties: Prepare, complete and follow through with necessary paperwork related to real estate collections and loss mitigation.
  • Technology Utilization: Utilize existing and new technology and process?s.
  • Collaboration: Assists team members with clarification of complex collections issues as first line of escalation (if available) prior to escalating issues to higher level roles. May recommend to Supervisor areas of needing training for department based on types of situations presented for clarification by staff.
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Ent policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Qualifications for the Mortgage Collection Specialist Junior Position: 

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ combined financial institution experience in customer service, lending, or collections
  • 1+ years of mortgage/Real Estate Servicing or collections experience

Minimum Formal Qualifications for the Mortgage Collection Specialist Position: 

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • 4+ years' financial institution experience in customer service including:
  • 2+ years' Mortgage / Real Estate Servicing or collections experience.

Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa. For example, a requirement of a bachelor's degree in accounting and 2+ years of accounting experience could be substituted for a high school diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a master's degree in accounting and 0 years of work experience.
