Description

The Staff Accountant will work with the property accounting team to provide accounting services on a full monthly cycle. They will bring their creative thinking to help develop processes and procedures to better streamline the accounting function. This position reports to the Accounting Manager. Duties will be separated in accordance with internal control policy and procedure guidelines. Below is a list of general duties a Staff Accountant may be responsible for, although this may not be all inclusive.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly property financial statements.
  • Heavily involved in the budgeting process
  • Monitor costs as compared to budget, alerting management when needed
    • Review monthly variance reports
    • Attend & participate in quarterly forecast calls
    • Research discrepancies
  • Maintain detail of all balance sheet accounts and quarterly reconciliations
  • Review P/L for reasonableness
    • Review reclass/accrual entries provided by portfolio directors
    • GPR Variance -for all properties
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules
  • Calculate quarterly distributions to investors
  • Perform general ledger and period closing responsibilities including, but not limited to, journal entries, month-end work papers, accrual entries, special allocations, etc.
  • Cash management to include monitoring and maintenance of required reserves and escrows
  • Assist third party accountants at year-end to include preparing tax returns, audits, supporting schedules, and any other necessary data
    • Complete the tax preparation for roughly 15 entities
    • Complete the audit workpapers and PBC lists for roughly 5 entities
  • Assist in documentation of procedures
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations and assist with research needed
  • Special projects such as reporting and creating spreadsheets as requested
  • Annual calculations for triple net leases
  • Internal audits
  • Work with lenders on loan requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a minimum two years relevant experience
  • Prior Property Accounting experience and CPA a plus, but not required
