About the role

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Deputy General Counsel serves as a senior member of the legal leadership team, responsible for advising executive management, overseeing corporate legal matters, and ensuring the company’s operations comply with legal and regulatory standards. This role requires a strategic, business-minded approach to safeguarding the company’s brand, enabling growth, and strengthening customer trust.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Support the Board of Directors and executive leadership on governance matters, entity management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate formalities and internal policies across all business units.
  • Partner with product, marketing, and customer experience teams to review and advise on consumer-facing initiatives.
  • Ensure initiatives are legally sound, aligned with the brand, and compliant with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving consumer protection laws, advertising regulations, privacy, and data security requirements.
  • Develop and maintain compliance programs to support scalable growth and reinforce customer trust.
  • Provide legal leadership on acquisitions, investments, and strategic alliances.
  • Conduct legal due diligence and oversee integration planning and execution.
  • Manage litigation, claims, and state regulatory inquiries, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Identify potential legal risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and manage members of the legal team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams, including finance, investments, HR, operations, and technology

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily working indoors, office environment.
  • May sit for several hours at a time.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
  • Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including significant in-house counsel experience in a consumer-facing organization.
  • Expertise in commercial transactions, litigation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a customer-centric environment.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, including strong capabilities with Excel and PowerBI, to interpret data, generate metrics, and inform legal and business decisions.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience providing legal counsel to support the general business operations function of an organization
  • Familiarity with legal issues and regulations pertaining to the rental industry
  • Experience working in a fast pace, high-growth company

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Law— Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and agency rules.
  • Management— Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
