The Opportunity
The Senior Manager, Federal Government Relations role covers a wide range of policy and public affairs issues for the enterprise. Such issues may include technology, economic, and consumer related policies. The Senior Manager will play a critical role in the company’s advocacy strategies to include educating and engaging with policymakers, as well as analyzing policies and proposals that influence the consumer goods industry.
In this role, you will need to work with P&G colleagues, always striving to understand business strategies and objectives in order to identify public policy opportunities for growth. You will also need to spot emerging issues and help develop relationships with key external parties in Congress, the executive branch, trade associations, embassies and others policy leaders to advance and protect business interests.
This role requires a high level of flexibility and ability to be agile in the workplace. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and detail oriented, but above all a team player. You will join a dynamic, high-energy team and can expect to deepen your understanding of public policy, company priorities and strategic operations around the globe.
Responsibilities:
- Perform government relations duties that support P&G business priorities on Capitol Hill and with various Executive Branch officials and agencies, as well as other stakeholders in the public policy making process.
- Play a critical role interpreting policy initiatives and proposals, analyzing their impact and communicating often with government relations and business colleagues for understanding.
- Partner with P&G business leaders and colleagues, always striving to identify public policy opportunities for growth.
- Develop and lead strategies that help the team accomplish objectives, including an understanding of best practices for communication with policy makers and staff, as well as with business leaders.
- Spot emerging issues and help develop relationships with key stakeholders in Congress, the executive branch, trade associations and other policy leaders to advance and protect business interests.
- Execute and lead logistics for external events and engagements with stakeholders.
- Develop communications tools (e.g., one page policy position statements, executive briefs, etc.) and represent the company externally.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience on Capitol Hill, Executive branch, trade association and/or experience working directly or indirectly with policy makers or the policy making process.
- 3+ years working in government relations, public affairs or similar roles.
- Demonstrated ability to create stakeholder engagement strategies that lead to proactive opportunities for public affairs storytelling.
- Established understanding of the policy making process and external factors that influence the process.
- Ability to work in Washington, DC office a minimum of three days per week.
Pay Range: $155,000 – $190,000
Compensation for roles at P&G varies depending on a wide array of equal opportunity factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skills, and level of experience.
