Status: Part-time 20 hours a week

Hourly Rate:  $21.00 per hour  



SUMMARY

Come join us as we take on the challenges and opportunities of longer life and assist older adults in managing their financial affairs and furthering personal independence. This dynamic position is responsible for meeting with and getting to know the special gifts, talents, and qualities of the people we serve. The Financial Management Specialist matches and assigns volunteers to clients and will often carry a direct caseload of up to 10 clients. The Financial Management Specialist is charged with helping older adults balance their checkbooks, budget their finances, and assist with bill payment. At Lifespan we believe in lifelong learning, personal growth, and autonomy. The Financial Management Specialist works with our clients to help them achieve their financial goals. The Financial Management Specialist meets with clients throughout the month at designated times and agreed upon frequencies. The Financial Management Specialist works in conjunction with the Program Coordinators to provide daily program oversight maintaining current volunteer base. The Financial Management Specialist works with a team, providing bill payer services in multiple counties (Ontario, Livingston, Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, and Steuben). The focus of this position will be on serving our expanding Monroe County client base with bill paying services. Travel is involved amongst and between counties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete Initial client meeting and assess client financial situation. 
  • Develop an action plan to assist clients with addressing financial goals: budgeting, bill payment and balancing checkbook. 
  • Assist clients with financial decision-making. 
  • Link and manage volunteer client assignments.
  • Provide appropriate financial counseling, budgeting, & organizing services to ensure long-term security.
  • Assist Program Coordinator with client and volunteer management. 
  • Refer to community resources to assist clients with maintaining independence.
  • Maintain and manage all records, reports and statistics as required ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Advocate with financial or other individuals/institutions on behalf of client.
  • Adhere to and deliver services in accordance with Lifespan mission, vision, brand concepts, policies, and procedures.
  • Network with other Lifespan programs to meet the needs of the clients. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Minimum requirement AAS degree; Bachelors preferred or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE: Two plus years working with low-income older adults preferred. Experience helping with financial solutions preferred.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 80% of the work is performed at clients’ homes throughout Monroe County and the City of Rochester
  • 20% of work is performed in an office setting at a workstation.
  • Computer usage (Office 365, Excel, Word, JotForm, Better Impact, Peerplace).
  • Verbal, written, telephone communication skills.
  • Strong client communication skills, compassion, and empathy.
  • Must be able to maintain composure under difficult and challenging situations.
  • Must be able to work in multi-cultural situations.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation for home visits.
  • Interface with all levels of personnel
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural situations.
  • Normal daily walking and sitting. 
  • Frequent computer usage.
  • Some lifting (files, etc.) <20 lbs.
