We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model that includes four different work modalities. This role has an onsite work arrangement with an onsite presence of 5 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
Reporting to the Director of Blue Jays Unlimited, this position focuses on planning, executing and monitoring continuous fundraising activities for young alumni who are primarily affiliated with Johns Hopkins Athletics; specifically, personal solicitations and email and phone solicitation programs. This position is responsible for reaching and exceeding annual targets to achieve the strategic goal of broadening and strengthening the base of constituent support and engagement with Johns Hopkins University alumni, parents, and friends. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the development staffs in Central Services, Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and within other collegial relationships to increase overall young alumni annual giving.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising:
- In consultation with the Director, the Assistant Director will coordinate and manage overall engagement strategies for a portfolio of select individuals affiliated with the Department of Athletics in collaboration with various areas of Johns Hopkins University, to include Homewood Alumni Relations, the Office of Annual Giving, The Hopkins Fund, and the Krieger and Whiting Schools.
- Develop annual and multi-year plans; create appropriate goals, time tables, gift tables, and participation targets. Monitor progress closely; regularly communicate with leadership, staff and volunteers.
- Conduct 125+ strategic, in-person or virtual visits per year to qualify new prospects, solicit leadership level annual gifts within a gift range that is generally $1,000-$5,000, recruit and engage volunteers, and educate and steward donors. Expected overnight travel is two out of state trips a month in addition to local travel.
- Travel and attend all BJU events with the intent to engage young alumni prospects and steward current donors.
- Manage overall engagement and solicitations strategies for young alumni (0-10 years out).
- Manage the day to day operations of the Black & Blue Society; engaging and soliciting current student-athletes, with a focus on the Senior Class Giving program.
- Manage the internal student-athlete outreach program; including coordinating outreach and solicitation during crowdfunding campaigns.
- The Assistant Director will monitor progress towards meeting and exceeding annual giving goals for Blue Jays Unlimited associated with Athletics prospects and donors.
- Development of a stewardship strategy for young alumni donors. Create an annual gift prospect pool by developing and stewarding Athletics affiliated prospect pool members to encourage ($1,000-$5,000) annual gifts.
- Research prospects for potential engagement through committees, volunteer activities, annual giving, and or events.
- Enter action notes and other information into JHAS (Salesforce).
- Meet regularly with the Director to identify opportunities for and challenges to broad based engagement.
Volunteer Engagement and Staff Management:
- Coordinate 2-3 in person young alumni events annually, as well as all Black and Blue Society events.
- Provide support to committees managed by the Board of Advisors. Work with each board member to ensure that they are serving on at least on committee to support board member engagement. Partner with each committee chair to ensure that groups are meeting regularly. Work to develop a volunteer pipeline and identify future young alumni board members
- Help solicit annual board dues from young alumni board members by the end of the fiscal year. Create a comprehensive strategy to increase giving of each young alumni board member and encourage peer to peer solicitations.
- Serve as the Blue Jays Unlimited Sports Fundraising Liaison for women’s soccer, men’s soccer, women’s tennis and swimming
