Consultant, Business Consulting (PL Underwriting Automation & Technology)

This Personal Lines (PL) Underwriting Automation and Technology position supports strategic transformation by identifying and executing automation opportunities within underwriting processes. The role leads initiatives from concept to implementation, including developing business cases with cost-benefit analysis. It also contributes to data-driven decision-making through pre and post-production profitability analysis, validation and ongoing monitoring, ensuring issues are identified and addressed.

As the PL environment continues to evolve - with increasing automation, advanced modeling, and enhanced business capabilities - this role is essential to identifying and driving strategic projects, process redesign, and automation initiatives. Filling this position will support our ability to respond quickly to market demands and ultimately lead in or maintain our competitive edge.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

• Underwriting knowledge and expertise – understanding of PL underwriting philosophy, guidelines and risk evaluation (UW rules), and how automation aligns with guidelines and risk appetite
• Strong business‑driven technical mindset with the ability to identify complex improvement opportunities and design and implement effective solutions for our Personal Lines underwriting organization
• Working knowledge of rating, pricing, and predictive models and analytics used in PL
• Ability to lead cross-functional strategic initiatives from concept through execution   
• Ability to break down ambiguous, high-impact business challenges into clear, structured solution designs which are taken through to full implementation and post launch
• Analytical mindset with ability to interpret trends, performance and operational KPIs and translate data insights into actionable business recommendations
• Ability to coordinate across underwriting, IT, product, operations etc.
• Clear communicator, strong documentation skills, ability to influence and gain buy-in
• Ability to create executive-level summaries

You will participate in major process modeling, analysis and design efforts providing business performance management, organizational design and business risk management capabilities to formulate pragmatic, forward facing and impactful business transformation plans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partners with senior leaders to transform their businesses through the strategic application of people, processes and technology. Participates in the planning process by identifying complexities, dependencies and duplications.

• Demonstrates expertise in leading business process analysis/design, organizational analysis, needs assessments and cost/benefit analysis to align solutions with business strategies and direction. Consults with functional groups within Nationwide Technology and internal business clients to develop short- and long-term business transformation plans. 

• Serves as process management contributor and consultant between business customers and systems area for development and implementation of business processes and procedures. Responsible for communicating to customers, management and external sources.

• Identifies critical elements of a business process that need to be managed. Defines criteria of performance success. Reports performance in a cohesive manner.
