About the Commission
The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state’s civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. It is against Florida law to discriminate on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status. The Commission investigates complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and state employee whistle-blower retaliation.
The Commission is responsible for promoting fair treatment, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among members of all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and works to eliminate discrimination against groups and their members.
Position Synopsis
This position is a member of the Commission’s Executive Team, reporting to the Executive Director. It is responsible for the overall management of the Commission’s enforcement sections, including Customer Service, Intake, and Investigations Units.
Duties:
- Leads and manages the enforcement teams, ensuring thorough and accurate investigations of civil rights violations are being conducted.
- Develops and implements investigative procedures in compliance with applicable statutes and policies.
- Performs and supervises the complaint intake process, including evaluating jurisdiction and recommending appropriate disposition.
- Performs and supervises investigations into complaints of discrimination and retaliation. Reviews investigative evidence and drafts investigative reports and recommendations.
- Performs quality assurance and compliance reviews on intake assessments and investigated cases.
- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, including providing instructions, training, and evaluations. Sets and adjusts staff priorities and oversees and develops investigative staff.
- Monitors case assignments to ensure investigations are conducted in a timely manner and comply with established quality control standards.
- Engages in activities that promote teamwork and trust within the areas of direct supervision and as part of the agency.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on all priority metrics. Prepares comprehensive management reports on the status of investigations and unit activities.
- Serves as an advisor to the Executive Director on all aspects and activities of the enforcement programs. Identifies and communicates trends and root causes of any performance issues and proactively develops effective recommendations to address them.
- Monitors progress under federal grants to ensure all requirements are being met. Ensures programs comply with federal and state laws and guidelines.
- Develops and prepares necessary written correspondence, reports, personnel, and budgetary recommendations.
