Are you a forward-thinking engineering student with a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology and wanting to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment? Join us for a summer internship in the Simulation and Training Solutions department. Located in Sterling, VA, your mission will be to apply your aerospace, systems, and software engineering expertise to tackle some of the most challenging and innovative projects in platform training solutions. Working with government research facilities, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the future by developing groundbreaking technologies that have far-reaching implications for national security, defense, and beyond. You will be working with the customers and a cross-function Collins team to develop rapid prototypes, proof of concepts and hands-on testing. This role is onsite, in Sterling, Virginia. This role may be eligible for relocation.
What You Will Do:
- You will work closely with experienced engineers on various strategic training development programs to help develop state of the art simulators and trainers for a variety of platforms.
- Research and apply Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate systems engineering artifacts (e.g., requirements, design documents, interface definitions).
- Develop and test prompt engineering strategies for structured, standards-compliant document generation.
- Explore methods for efficient memory management, persistent state handling, and tool-calling frameworks to extend LLM utility.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop, document, and publish effective systems engineering processes for use in the strategic solutions within Mission Systems BU

Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion).
- Knowledge of NLP or LLM fine-tuning techniques.
- Experience with Python and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Langchain, Transformers
- Side/college projects in AI (share links!): e.g., chatbot, RAG , classifier, or agent using tools/functions.
- Strong interest in AI/ML applications to engineering workflows.
