The Laboratory Instructor, Biology is responsible for teaching four lab sections each semester (Biology 203 or 204), prepares lab material and equipment, and supervises both graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. This position is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position, scheduled to work 40 hours per week for 10 months each year. We expect to hire for this position with a start date in January 2025, but we are open to a hire date in August 2025.Job Duties:
Job Duties:
The Biology department at Bucknell University is seeking a broadly-trained biologist to become part of a team that manages the lab instruction for our Biology core courses (Biology 203 and 204). This position would have the opportunity to rotate into the non majors lab courses in Biology (Biology 121 and 122). As part of that team, the new hire will:
- Teach/Grade: Teach four (Biology 203 and 204) or five (Biology 121 and 122) lab sections per semester with 18 - 22 students per section; grade lab reports and related exams; prepare final lab grades.
- Develop Curriculum and Course Documents: Prepare the lab syllabus and schedule each semester; design and prepare all materials for 10-12 lab sections per semester; maintain and update lab manuals; develop and maintain laboratory curriculum in coordination with other faculty members involved in instruction in these courses.
- Advise: Advise and support students during office hours.
- Supervise: Hire and train graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants on lab safety and regulatory issues; directly supervise TAs in the lab sections; conduct weekly lab meetings with TAs and other lab instructors.
- Manage Lab: Maintain lab supplies and equipment; assemble equipment and clean up afterward (with the assistance of grad students and/or TAs); manage hazardous waste disposal; support a culture of safety in the laboratory.
- Collaborate/Communicate: Collaborate with lecture instructors to maintain connections between lectures and lab/field activities.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development regularly to stay abreast of recent developments in undergraduate laboratory pedagogy.
- Other: Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
- Master's degree or ABD in Biology.
Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D.
- Teaching experience at the university/college level with evidence of teaching effectiveness and innovative curricular development.

44,600.00-55,750.00The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
