Job Summary

The Pre-College Advisor serves as an academic advisor for college readiness and a central resource for all RPI STEP students in grades 7-12. The Advisor will counsel RPI STEP students on academic course requirements and selection to graduate high school and pursue college and career in STEM fields, including advising them on the college application process and choosing the right fit college The Advisor will report to the STEP Director and work with the STEP staff and guidance counselors at partner schools to monitor RPI STEP students’ academic performance in the STEM fields.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching (education) and/or guidance and counseling, or a related field
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development or another closely related position

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in in higher education
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience working with middle and or high school students 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships with a culturally diverse population at all levels across the Institute
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment that is inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite software applications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail in a complex organizational environment
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems
  • Ability to initiate projects and function as a self-starter
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and apply FERPA regulations

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

This is a 12-month, full-time, indefinite position.

Travel

Occasional overnight travel may be required (10% or less)

Driving

Incidental driving possible, but not required

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $60,500 - $65,000 / yr
