Your Role:
As a Subrogation Specialist – Medical Payments Specialist, you are responsible for handling incoming calls and managing a designated volume of arbitrations, including initiating arbitration and cross-applying between companies on disputed Medical Payments and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims. The role involves investigating and researching losses to determine best practices for subrogation and securing the company’s rights of recovery from insureds or other responsible parties. You will determine appropriate recovery methods, including internal subrogation, external agencies, or outside counsel, place all parties on notice to protect the maximum recoverable amount, and handle disputed liability claims and out-of-state losses.
Your work:
- Handle an inventory consisting of automotive damage, disputed liability, and cross jurisdictional claims.
- Initiate and hear arbitration between companies on disputed liability and/or damage claims.
- Negotiate and conclude recovery settlements (within authority) while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.
- Conduct themselves professionally and with positive behavior.
- Display values consistent with CSAA Insurance Group.
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle auto claims within draft authority.
- File and hear arbitrations as required.
- Determine the appropriate collection method.
Required Experience, Education and Skills:
- 3+ years of automotive claims liability experience required.
- General or advanced knowledge of Department of Insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong customer service and negotiation skills.
- Proficient analytical, problem-solving, prioritization and organizational skills.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to type 50 wpm.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to take direction and act accordingly.
- Critical thinking and strong logic and reasoning skills.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- General understanding of different lines of coverage (i.e., homeowners, auto, personal property) preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Department of Insurance regulations and compliance requirements
- BA/BS in Business, Insurance or related area, or equivalent experience preferred.
