Job Description

Global Security Assistant

The primary purpose of this position, which is a key part of a dynamic global security, health, and safety office, is to support the International Security Advisor. The position is also responsible for preparing and assisting international study program students, and faculty going abroad.

What you will be doing in this position:

Administrative support to the International Security Advisor

• Advise all university travelers on relevant location-specific security, safety and health threats and relevant mitigation strategies.

• Disseminate location-specific pre-travel international security, safety, and health/medical information, researching legality of prescription medication.

• Help monitor and track all university individual and group international travelers while they are abroad.

• Provide travelers with security updates, warnings, alerts, and to provide recommendations for action before and as situations develop in real time.

• Assist travelers in managing personal incidents and in receiving help and services while abroad. These include managing hospitalization, payment of services, and coordinating with insurance and other health and security providers and local authorities.

• Ensure all students traveling abroad are enrolled in adequate international health insurance. Assist ISP, faculty program directors, and others with insurance enrollment.

• Assist the International Security Advisor and ISP Registrar with enrollment issues, special needs, traveler reimbursement and medical services coordination – pre, during and post-travel.

• Assist in supervision of student employees.

• Attend department meetings as needed.

Training

• Content creation for presentations, briefings, and seminars.

• Training presentations.

• Give recommendations on international travel risk mitigation, strategies and principles to all university personnel and students.

Assist as a response team member for international security, safety, health/medical and sexual misconduct incidents.

• Help ensure that university personnel and students receive immediate assistance and are out of harm’s way.

• Assist in making decisions for immediate care, response, coordination, and possible evacuation.

• Work closely with external help organizations (i.e., US Government, local national governments/authorities, security assistance providers, health/insurance providers and responders, key Church personnel). 

• Assist International Security Advisor in incident investigations. Provide recommendations for actions and education. This function may require some off-hours availability and response capability.

Help review group program and individual international travel proposals. This also includes general on-going assessment of existing programs

What qualifies you for this role:

Minimum education/experience required:  

• Bachelor’s degree and 1-year of international living or equivalent travel experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of international living, working, and travel experience. Knowledge of world geography, languages, politics, and economies. Previous work experience in geography, languages, linguistics, government (international portfolio), development, and area studies. Ability to work with multiple departments and various web-based AI-driven intel platforms. Experience with incident response.
