About the role

The School of Data Science (SDS) at the University of Virginia seeks a Program Manager for the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI). This position serves as an inclusive, detail-oriented and impact-focused team member who enjoys working with diverse teams to provide engaging, effective programming for a variety of stakeholders. This role designs and implements outreach, training and professional development programs to support access to and belonging in the School of Data Science. The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating the timelines and deliverables for a variety of offerings primarily focused on K-12 and undergraduate engagement, with other programs dependent on the strategic direction of the School.  This position will operate in a hybrid work environment with regularly scheduled office and remote workdays.

 Responsibilities:

  • Applies inclusion and belonging concepts to the implementation of programs for staff and students. 

  • Organizes, plans, implements and evaluates programs, within budget constraints, including but not limited to the Bridge Plus program (a bridging and belonging leadership program for undergraduate students) and the Starr Hill Pathways program. 

  • Coordinates multiple events and workshops in support of OEI priorities.

  • Regularly communicates with stakeholders to arrange meetings, confirm program schedules, and problem-solve any issues that arise. 

  • Takes proactive steps to ensure programs are delivered on time and develops alternate plans for potential delays or changes.

  • Manages the day-to-day logistics for OEI programming including room reservations and the ordering and delivery of food, program materials and promotional items.

  • Maintains and tracks inventory of OEI supplies.

  • Effectively communicates with management/stakeholders regarding program status 

  • Provides feedback and thought partnership to expand program offerings and enhance the quality of existing programs.

The School of Data Science (SDS) – UVA’s 12th school, established in 2019 – is positioning the University as a global leader in efforts to improve society through teaching, research and service based on the powerful, emerging field of data science. SDS is a school without walls and seeks to establish new and exciting types of relationships to achieve excellence in collaborative, open, and interdisciplinary research. SDS helps to meet the soaring demand for qualified data science professionals as responsible and diverse leaders in a field that plays a key role in the global information-based economy. The work crosses disciplines, departments, schools and colleges to leverage UVA’s combined capabilities in data science, and to create meaningful partnerships with government, corporate, and community partners committed to responsible, collaborative, open, and inclusive data science.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience. 6 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills 

  • Self-motivated, self-directed, detail-oriented, passionate, and team oriented 

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders to meet a common goal 

  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and evaluating new programs 

  • Programming experience related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging is preferred 

Anticipated hiring range: $50,000 - $60,000
