About this opportunity:

Join Cenovus Energy as the Senior Specialist, Downstream Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) as a recognized subject matter expert in maintenance and reliability practices within downstream operations. In this role, you will play a critical leadership function in shaping and implementing standardized M&R practices to support safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operations. With deep technical expertise and strategic insight, you will define and drive best-in-class processes, ensure alignment across sites, and serve as a key enabler of Cenovus’s Operational Excellence goals. Preference given to individuals who currently reside in or can relocate to the Ohio area

What you’ll do:

  • Drive implementation of the "Maintain Right" pillar within the Downstream Reliability Model, establishing standardized maintenance and reliability practices.

  • Collaborate with site leaders and central functions to ensure consistent execution of M&R processes aligned with Operational Excellence goals.

  • Conduct gap assessments and lead initiatives passionate about defect elimination, RCFA, and risk-based maintenance planning.

  • Establish and guide the Downstream M&R Leaders Network to encourage knowledge sharing, alignment, and adoption of standard methodology.

  • Define and track critical metrics to monitor reliability improvements and drive continuous performance gains.

  • Mentor M&R leaders across the organization, supporting talent development and succession planning to build long-term capability.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US.

  • 20+ years of downstream refining experience, with at least 10+ years dedicated to Maintenance & Reliability

  • Demonstrated leadership in driving groundbreaking change in complex organizations

  • Deep understanding of M&R fundamentals, reliability engineering, and operational excellence methodologies

  • Proven track record to work across large, matrixed organizations and influence at all levels

  • Experience with reliability tools and techniques (RCM, RCFA, defect elimination, asset management frameworks)

  • Strong intuition for business and critical thinking with the ability to align technical work to business priorities
